Good Friday
Read: John 19:1-30
Good Friday, a day filled with pain and suffering, a day in which one of Jesus’ disciples, Judas Iscariot hanged himself (Matthew 27:5), not many people would consider this Friday very good.
So, what is so good about this Friday? We know this was the time in which Pilate sentenced Jesus to a miserable death of crucifixion (John 19:16), and in our minds, it sure doesn’t seem very good. And in the minds of the disciples at this point it sure wasn’t a good Friday. However, it wasn’t until later, when Jesus rose again and met his disciples, that they considered it “Good Friday.”
Jesus knew what was necessary in order to fulfill the scriptures and in order to save his people. This Friday, while full of pain and suffering, in the end was indeed a good Friday! And soon after that Friday, all of God’s people knew that it was a Good Friday.
