Spy Wednesday
Read: Matthew 26:1-16
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
This verse came to mind as I read about Spy Wednesday. Spy meaning “ambush, ambuscade, snare,” the way the disciples were miserly over the perfume used to anoint Jesus, and of course the betrayal of Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Verses 1-16 of Matthew 26 do not paint a pretty picture of the disciples, and it’s all too easy for me to look back with indignant judgement at those who surrounded Jesus. But for me, these verses also bring some hard questions into my mind.
Where is my love of God compared to my love of money?
Where in my life might I be acting like a spy?
Am I trusting in God’s plan for my life, or am I making moves like I know best?
I am thankful that we can look back on Spy Wednesday and know that God has a plan, that God’s love is great, and that we are all in need of His mercy.
